The works team has been continuing shoulder repairs along Sydney Highway and will soon begin potholing, prioritising the worst affected areas to ensure the road remains safe and accessible for all users.
At present, we are utilising available materials on site while waiting for the arrival of new supplies.
We would like to sincerely thank the CKI Ports Manager for kindly allowing us to use their vessel regularly, which has been invaluable in supporting the Direction Island cleanup efforts. Thanks to this support, the team has been able to make regular trips to Direction Island over the past few months. We have also caught up on the cleaning of the toilets on Direction Island. Additionally, the team has begun mowing and clearing tracks to improve accessibility and safety for the community.
Looking ahead, a significant cleanup of the tracks is planned, which will include the removal and relocation of felled coconut trees, branches, and other debris that could obstruct pathways or pose safety hazards. These works are scheduled to take place over the coming months as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the area.
Unfortunately, the Shire’s outboard motor currently in use has been deemed unserviceable and beyond repair. We are working to secure a replacement motor to keep the vessel operational and prevent any interruptions to the clean-up schedule.
We appreciate the community’s continued patience and support during these important works. Should you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to contact the Shire office on 9162 6649.
