The Shire is seeking community input on the following items. Please follow the links to find out more about each project.

DISABILITY ACCESS AND INCLUSION PLAN (DAIP)

Developing and implementing a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a proactive way for the Shire to comply with legislation regarding the provision of goods, services or facilities, against people on the basis that they have or may have, a disability. The Shire’s DAIP expresses our commitment to go beyond compliance and break down attitudinal, physical, communication and social barriers, and aims for an effective DIAP that:

1. Aligns with the Shire’s Community Strategic Plan and Corporate Business Plan aspirations and priorities;
2. Ensures legislative compliance;
3. Demonstrates a proactive approach that assists us to deliver services more efficiently and increase its ability to reach all stakeholders; and
4. Is action focussed with clear measures.
Shire’s DIAP analyses current and projected future demand and has outlined ways in which the organisation will ensure our goods, services, workplace, premise and facilities are accessible and inclusive to people with disability.

The DAIP also sets objectives and actions, assign accountability and responsibility and measure outcomes.

POSITIVE AGEING PLAN

A Positive Ageing articulates a commitment to support the Shire’s ageing population. The Shire is anecdotally aware that the population of older people is increasing and therefore is also aware of importance of that demographic having access to appropriate support and services as they age. The Shire’s Positive Ageing Plan provides direction for how the Shire addresses, in partnership, the challenges facing its ageing community. The plan provides effective strategies to facilitate meaningful participation in the community to build social capital whereby community members are involved and take leadership in shaping their community. The Plan assists in building a strong, connected, accessible, harmonious and supportive community that drives improvements in the quality of life of the older community. The Shire’s Positive Ageing Plan:

1. Aligns with the Shire’s Community Strategic Plan and Corporate Business Plan aspirations and priorities;
2. Ensures legislative compliance;
3. Demonstrates a proactive approach that assists us to deliver services more efficiently and increase its ability to reach all stakeholders; and
4. Is action focussed with clear measures.

WILLIAM KEELING CRESCENT

The masterplan listed William Keeling Crescent as an opportunity for improvement via improved landscaping, shade trees and amenities. The Shire received a lot of feedback and ideas on how to improve the amenity and appearance of William Keeling Crescent. Thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas, especially the students from CIDHS. The ideas we received varied with some wanting some significant changes, others preferring just minor changes.
