The Shire has been directed by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) to close the Home Island green waste compound to public access. This is because the site is also used for sludge disposal, creating an unacceptable public health and safety risk. As the facility is not approved for unsupervised public access, residents can no longer dispose of green waste at this location.
New Green Waste Disposal Location
Residents are requested to take all green waste to the Home Island Transfer Station during the following opening hours:
Home Island Transfer Station
- Tuesday: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Friday: 10:30 am – 11:30 am
- Sunday: 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
The Transfer Station can also be opened by appointment at alternative times to accept commercial or residential waste. Applicable disposal fees must be paid at the Shire Office before disposal. Green waste remains free.
West Island
There are no changes to green waste disposal arrangements on West Island. Existing disposal arrangements remain in place.
