DI RESORT – PUBLIC SUBMISSIONs: At the 4th of December Ordinary Council Meeting Council considered the formal request from Cocos Boronia Resort Pty Ltd to lease land at Direction Island for a resort. Council resolved to advertise its intention to dispose of property as per requirements under the Local Government Act.

Public submissions are now open for comment on the proposed disposition by lease. Please see separate advert for further details. Representatives from Cocos Boronia Resort Pty Ltd were on island between the 3rd and the 6th of December and conducted a community engagement session on both Home Island and West Island to answer any questions the community had about the proposed development.

MAJU PULU KITA - JALAN PANTAI ROAD RENEWAL: The renewal of Jalan Pantai along the Home Island foreshore is almost complete. The crew have worked tirelessly on this project from manufacturing the bricks earlier in the year to taking out the old bricks and saving those suitable to be reused in other lower load areas such as footpaths. A big thankyou goes out to the whole crew who have been involved in this project in one area or another, we can’t wait to take a ride down the smooth surface of Jalan Pantai next week.

MAJU PULU KITA - PUMPTRACK INSTALLATION: Another community masterplan project will be complete in the coming weeks as the pumptrack gets installed on the oval at West Island. The Shire would like to thank everyone who gave feedback regarding its planned location including the high school students and those who participated in the facebook poll. When we combined the feedback from the students with the results of the poll it was decided to trial the area opposite the playground. If any issues subsequently arise from this location the modular nature of this infrastructure means it can easily to moved to an alternate location.

GRANT FUNDING 58 PLANTS: The Shire is excited to announce that we have been successful in securing a $15,000 grant from the FRRR ANZ Seeds of Renewal Program for a project called 58 Plants. THANK YOU: As 2019 increasingly draws to an end it is an opportune time to thank the community for their support and involvement over the last 12 months. We are very proud of the work that we have been able to achieve for the community this year however it wouldn’t have been possible without the input and feedback that we get from the community. We wish all the community a great end of year break and look forward to working with you in 2020.
